Where we started

Over the course of the 5 weeks, our process included researching, ideating, delegating, refining, and coding. We began with researching historic events involving the island and the aftermath. With this knowledge, we began ideating how this could be presented on the site.

Two Languages

Do we display both languages at the same time or have a toggle swapping between two alternate sites? Eventually, this led to our refinement phase which made us separate into our delegated teams to optimally work on the site.

Home

We wanted to have a robust landing page that would be able to quickly introduce viewers to the topic.

Archive

This would be a place where people could easily locate and listen to stories from people on the island.

Timeline

A timeline page was necessary to show a breakdown of big events that effected the island.

After 5 weeks...

Home

The landing page provides information about the project and a quick summary of Kefalonia. A video was played here as a way of pulling in users and showcasing the island.

Archive

This is the main page of the website and provides different options for accessing the interviews.

Timeline

Focusing on the major earthquake that shook the island, the timeline presents other major events with images and descriptions. The user can click on other points to view their perspective details.

Practices

Another part of the project was setting it up for future students and contributors to add to it. Whether from the local high school or from North Carolina State University, we made sure to lay out instructions in the code and templates to create future edits.

The Practice page was where we wanted to take the project further, but due to time constraints where limited on our development on the project.

Looking Back...

This project engulfed me in a new culture that was unlike anything I have experienced before. It was wonderful being able to hear the people's stories and how they were able to push past all these hardships. Delegating and learning to code a website are great attributes of the project that I feel I will be able to take on later projects.
